Security and Privacy
Is Trustworthy secure?
Yes. Trustworthy deploys industry-leading security measures to ensure your family's information remains private and protected:Bank-level data encryption: Trustworthy data is encrypted in transit and at rest using 256-bit AES encryption keys.
Tokenization: Sensitive data is replaced with a secure code, keeping it protected and separate.
Multi-factor authentication: Trustworthy's multi-factor authentication protects against unauthorized access.
Threat detection: Trustworthy uses behavior analytics to detect anomalies and unusual activities.
Biometric authentication: Facial recognition and fingerprint authentication are available on all platforms.
24/7 on-site security: Data centers have around-the-clock security, strict access controls, and ID requirements.
Disaster readiness: Encrypted data is backed up across servers to prevent loss from fires or outages.
Stolen-password alerts: Trustworthy scans passwords for breaches and prompts you to update compromised ones.
Your information is safer with Trustworthy than in a filing cabinet at home, where documents or thumb drives may be vulnerable to loss, damage, or theft. See our security page for more details on how we keep your information private and protected.
Why is Trustworthy called a digital vault?
A digital vault like Trustworthy is an encrypted platform where you can store, organize, and share sensitive documents and information. Think of it as the digital equivalent of a safe deposit box, but more flexible and accessible — protected by multi-factor authentication and other strong security measures.
Will Trustworthy ever sell my data?
No. Trustworthy will never sell your information. Our revenue comes from paying subscribers who want secure family information protection and optimization.
Can Trustworthy employees see my data?
No. Trustworthy uses "aliasing,” a method that scrambles data to make it unreadable. These aliases are irreversible and cannot be solved — not even by the Trustworthy team.
Our team cannot see information like passwords, account numbers, Social Security numbers, notes, or any other data in your Family Operating System®. As an account holder, only you and those whom you've explicitly invited to access your data can see this information.
Additionally, our team has extremely limited internal access to any non-identifying data on our servers. All requests to access the production servers for maintenance or updates are routed, verified, and authorized by two members of the Trustworthy executive team. All team members have undergone rigorous background checks and have a legally vested interest in keeping customer data safe and secure. Upon completion of server maintenance, access is immediately revoked.
For the limited pieces of information the Trustworthy code can see, the service offers value back in the form of personalized actions and reminders.
Personalization and reminders help customers keep their information current and useful. They also help save time and money in the form of late fees, fines, rush fees, and other charges one could otherwise avoid. Personalization and reminders are an important part of your Family Operating System® and part of the value Trustworthy provides to members.
Where can I report security issues?
Trustworthy takes the privacy and security of our customers’ data seriously. If you suspect a security incident, report it as soon as possible so we can begin to investigate and resolve the incident. Security incidents may be reported to security@trustworthy.com.

How does Trustworthy's digital vault compare with other solutions?
We've seen families build DIY solutions to keep track of their important family information using the analog and digital tools at hand, from a stack of paper on their desk to Excel spreadsheets and more.
We tried using these systems and found that all of the off-the-shelf solutions fell short in the same areas. That’s because they:
Start with a blank page, which can be a blocker for many people.
Didn't offer guidance in getting everything set up.
Didn't offer automation, requiring everything to be done manually.
Didn't help keep everything current.
Were dumb containers — they didn't know anything about your information and couldn't offer value around that information.
Had insufficient security or offered advanced security only for an additional fee. Worse, they were free, implying that your information is the product.
Didn't offer service to help folks who needed it.
Didn't handle the temporal nature of sharing estate information: some now, some later, or nothing now and everything later.
Trustworthy’s digital vault — the Family Operating System® — solves all of these problems and more. Other companies have tried to match what Trustworthy does, but their security, features, and ease of use haven’t measured up. Here’s how Trustworthy compares with systems you might have tried before.
How is Trustworthy different from cloud drives or password managers?
Unlike generic cloud drives or password managers, Trustworthy is purpose-built for family organization. It combines secure document storage, collaboration tools, reminders, and role-based sharing in one platform.

What kind of information should I store in Trustworthy?
Any type of information that’s important to your family.
This may include copies of your IDs (passports, driver’s licenses, etc.), health insurance cards, property deeds, powers of attorney, wills, advance medical directives, bank account records, tax returns, letters to loved ones, and much more.
Some Trustworthy members have hundreds of documents in their accounts.
What are the most common use cases for Trustworthy?
Virtually any life moment is made simpler by storing and securing your important information in Trustworthy.
Common use cases include: preparing for disasters, getting married, starting a family, organizing your child’s data, buying a home, moving to a new home, doing your income taxes, planning your estate, traveling internationally, sharing healthcare wishes, caring for elderly parents, and dealing with a death in the family.
How much storage is included?
Trustworthy’s Silver and Gold plans have unlimited storage. Our free plan has a limit of 12 items.
Can I get help setting up my Trustworthy account?
Yes! Our team of Trustworthy Certified Experts™ can provide as little or as much help as you would like. Consider partnering with an Expert if:
You are less tech-savvy and would like someone to walk you through the product. You have limited time to dedicate to getting organized.
You’re navigating grief and need support organizing important documents and details.
You feel anxious or embarrassed about where to start and need a judgment-free guide to help you move forward.
Access and Sharing
How many people can be added to a Trustworthy account?
You can add as many collaborators to your account as you wish. There are three levels of account access to choose from:
Full Access: View and edit access to everything in your account.
Partial Access: Access only to certain categories.
Legacy Access: Full access in the event of your death.
Collaborators typically include family members and professional advisors, including accountants, tax preparers, lenders, attorneys, and estate planners.
Your collaborators can help you build your account by contributing documents, making it even easier to get started.
Do collaborators need to purchase a Trustworthy subscription to access my account?
No, collaborators do not need to purchase a subscription. Collaborators you invite can access the specific information you’ve shared with them, based on the permissions you set.
If you’d like to create an additional household, you will need to establish another account.
Can a document be shared with someone you don’t wish to add to your account?
Absolutely. Trustworthy’s SecureLinks™ feature lets you have complete control over who can access a document and for how long. SecureLinks™ automatically expire based on your selection (one hour, day, week, or month).
You’ll be notified when your document has been accessed and when the access link has expired.
What happens to my account if I die?
If you’ve designated Legacy Access account holders, they can contact Trustworthy if you pass away. They will need to go through a secure identity verification process before gaining access. Additional documentation, such as a death certificate or letter from an estate attorney, is required.
